Cool shade in the garden |
Heating is by electric storage heaters, and cooking by electricity. All cottages have a smoke alarm. Advice on Community Alarms and providers is available through the Welfare Officer. Each cottage has a small garden plot and occupants are requested to keep this in good order. The Estate Manager and Head Gardener are happy to advise on any gardening problems villagers may have. |

Residents begin their retirement in Whiteley Village by leading independent lives in a cottage. Residents are encouraged to register with a local GP under the National Health Service. A Village Support Worker, by request, will visit the homebound to assist them in maintaining their independence. The Welfare Manager and her team provide guidance and assistance with Benefit Claims and liaison with statutory services and voluntary organisations providing care. |

Should a cottage resident need more assistance
to look after themselves they may be eligible for Attendance Allowance which
will enable them to purchase care. The Community Care Act transferred the
responsibility for funding care to Social Services who will assess a person's
needs and finances and put together a package of care, wherever possible,
to assist a person to stay in their own home. Those needing more Care may be eligible to move to Huntley House Extra-care Complex. |

If Social Services assess a person as needing residential care and provide funding for it, residents may move in to Whiteley House. Alternatively if a person is able to self-fund residential care they may take up residency in Whiteley House, Residential Home. There is no down payment for cottages. There is a reasonable amenity charge for the facilities and services paid by Bankers Order one month in advance.. Eligible villagers will get housing benefit from the local council. Villagers may keep a dog, which must be kept under proper control at all times, and on a lead when within the built up areas of the Village. Villagers may not keep cats. This is a rule made by the villagers. |
